Most breeds of Poodles have a rich, thick, curly coat that requires regular grooming and care. Poodle's fur is often referred to as 'hair' because it is delicate and needs lots of attention. Unlike many other dog breeds, Poodles are of various weight and height, differentiated by adult shoulder height. The exact measurements among the varieties are differ slightly from country to country. Breeders normally categorize the Poodle into three size categories, standard, miniature, and toy.
Poodles are remarkably intelligent, very active and acutely aware of their surroundings. Their aptitude makes them ideal for performing in dog shows and other performance atmospheres like a circus. Some Poodle breeds are also noted for having a strong instinctual behavior. Even the smallish Toys will point birds.
Poodles are family-oriented dogs and very eager to please their human owners. Standard Poodles are particularly known to be good with children. Poodles adapt well to new environments and are easy to socialize and train. They require daily exercise, like a vigorous walk and/or a play session that rewards appropriate behavior. Most Poodle's are also fairly agile and athletic.
Potty training is one of the more challenging behaviors with many dog breeds, but the Poodle is one of the easiest to train. Remember, they are still animals, and they need time to learn what behavior is expected of them and it may take a while, but Poodle's are quick to learn.
