house break your puppy. Crate training also provides a safe environment for you to watch your puppy when you are unable to be constantly attentive and is a secure place for your puppy to sleep. This helps teach them bladder control because they usually won't go potty where they sleep. As your pup gets older and becomes acclimated with his crate environment he will be able to hold his bladder longer.
Start crate training immediately after bringing home your new dachshund puppy. Select a crate that is large enough for your puppy. The crate should be kept out of the way, but near the central area of activity so your dachshund puppy becomes accustomed to the normal sounds, sights and smells of his new home. You can keep his favorite toys in the crate and give a him a blanket as a dog bed.
